Red Arrows Flyby for Charity Quiz

Heartstart Thatcham organised a charity quiz, “THE RED QUIZ”, on 7th February as part of the British Heart Foundation’s Ramp Up the Red fundraising campaign. Almost 100 people came in teams of up to eight to support the event with almost everyone wearing something red. Those that did not come wearing red were FINED! One team went a step further and dressed up as the Red Arrows complete with a runway and even did two flybys during the evening! The quiz consisted of ten rounds with a lunch break in the middle and at the end of the quiz a raffle, organised by Margaret Young, was held.

The money raised is to be split between Heartstart Thatcham and the British Heart Foundation. Dr Nick Young, Scheme Co-ordinator for Heartstart Thatcham noted that some of the money raised at the last quiz had been used to purchase an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) training system, which will be introduced onto the courses in March. The training equipment was on show for all to see at the quiz. The money this time going to continued running of the scheme and to the vital research carried out by the British Heart Foundation.

Many of those that were unable to attend sent in donations, raffle prizes and/or made a donation to one of the nurses at the Cardiac Care Unit at the Royal Berkshire Hospital - who is climbing Everest for the British Heart Foundation.

Nick thanked all those that had donated raffle prizes, to everyone who came and supported the quiz, and special thanks were given to Mike Smith, Chairman of the Wessex Sports and Social Club, for all the support he and the club have given us for our fundraising events over the years. Sadly the venue will soon be pulled down as part of the racecourse development. Nick noted that Heartstart Thatcham will continue events and quizzes, but would take a break for a while, in part to find a new venue.
