The Thatcham Waitrose store ran their token scheme for us in August 2013.  The money they raised for us will be used to purchase new equipment, cover hall hire and maintenance.  Dr Nick Young, our Scheme Co-ordinator, is shown in the photograph with Tracy, the lady who operates Community Matters in Thatcham.

Heartstart Thatcham organised a quiz evening which took place on Friday 8th November 2013. The evening was organised to raise funds, half of which will go to the Cardiac Care Unit at Royal Berkshire Hospital, which one of our team has recently experienced first hand, and to Heartstart Thatcham.
3rd November 2013
We had a very successful time at Thatcham Festival of Art and Leisure 2013 with a drop-in session on the 12th October at "The Hub" where people stopped by to book on a course, find out what we do and to try Hands-only CPR. The second event was a special training session, where we trained a number of people with Emergency Life Support (ELS) skills, as well as having a few people along to observer what we do. All left with the ability to support a life in an emergency until profession help arrives.

If you would like an aid to help learn, remember and practice Emergency Life Support (ELS) skills then there are a few applications that may aid you. There are two applications that we are aware of, there is the British Heart Foundation's Pocket CPR which teaches CPR. You may want to use a pillow to represent some ones chest.
3rd August 2013
Heartstart Thatcham started training the public today, 3rd August 2013, with two two hour sessions training a total of twelve members of the public. All twelve attendees completed the course and so we now have another twelve people with Emergency Life Support (ELS) skills walking around Thatcham, Newbury and other parts of Berkshire and the country. All of this is thanks to some dedicated volunteers including, during todays sessions, Dan Carter, Kim Young, Helen Picken, Nick Young (scheme co-ordinator) and Naomi Mildenhall (training supervisor).
