The Heartstart Thatcham team spent Saturday (23rd January 2016) at Parkway Shopping with sessions showing members of the public how to perform CPR and use an Automated External Defibrillator (AED). The event was supported not only by Parkway Shopping but also Pauls Bakery and Hotel Chocolat both giving gifts to those who came along. Everyone attempted CPR and most also tried using the AED.

West Berkshire Indoor Bowls were the first group of the year to be trained by Heartstart Thatcham. The group went through the full set of Emergency Life Support (ELS) skills and in addition the group also got a walk through on defibrillators. All were able to practice with CPR and use a defibrillator.

Heartstart Thatcham on the 4th December 2015 ran the Grotto at the switching on of the Thatcham Christmas lights. This is the second year that the team had organised the Grotto and Nick Young, Scheme Coordinator, said “it is a lot of hard work and the credit to organising it all has to go to Margaret Young and Pamela Smith, both have gone above and beyond to arrange it.” The team ran a stall on the Broadway Green too where tickets for the Grotto were sold. Father Christmas saw in excess of 150 children.

A fundraising event, an evening of Mediumship with International Medium Tom Dodds took place on 24 October 2015. The event, which was held at Frank Hutchings Community Hall in Thatcham, was organised entirely by Gail Gregory and Marie Peirce in aid of local charity Heartstart Thatcham. The event was so popular that a larger hall had to be used, the car park was full and people had to queue to enter.

Heartstart Thatcham was involved with European Restart a Heart Day, 16 October, and this year was no exception. Running two days earlier the team delivered a training session to the public as part of Thatcham Festival and then on 16 October visited Spurcroft School. The team showed year 5 and 6 pupils how to perform CPR with everyone attempting it. All pupils were then shown a defibrillator and then worked in team to use them.
