A team at Scottish and Southern Energy  (SSE) raised money and awareness for Heartstart Thatcham and Thames Valley Kings Wheelchair Basketball in March. The team, led by Clive Tilbury, invited both Charities to talk to employees about their work. The tem then led a walk along the Kennet and Avon Canal to raise funds for the two groups and in May Heartstart Thatcham was invited back to put staff through the course.

A celebration took place at Willow Close on Saturday 13th April as the Heartstart Thatcham team unveiled their 21st defibrillator. Heartstart Thatcham trained a number of Willow Close residents, family and friends in 2015 after which the team were invited to talk to the residents and manager of the venue. This led to not only further training session but to discussions to place a defibrillator.

Over 100 people saddled up for a fun evening at the races on Saturday 12 March 2016. The event was held at West Berkshire Indoor Bowls Club (WBIBC), Newbury and organised by WBIBC Ladies Captain, Angela Blades-Moore and other members of the Social Committee. Master of Ceremony for the evening was club member Gordon Ballantyne.

Heartstart Thatcham recently unveiled their latest Public Access Defibrillator at Bucklebury. Following a talk from Heartstart Thatcham, organised by Dorothy Dugdale, with parish councillors in 2015, of which a many were only too enthusiastic to get involved, the team along with residents and councillors started fund-raising to place one unit in the parish. Local shop owners Hash and Chan Shingadia kindly gave permission for the unit to be located at their premises thus giving residents 24/7 access at a well known and easy to reach location.

Kennet School delights in raising money for charities both local and further afield.  On this occasion, on a non-uniform day on 12 February 2016, we raised a huge sum to support the purchase of a defibrillator.  There is already one of these important devices in the school and in the leisure centre and we wanted to support Dr Nick Young and Heartstart Thatcham, in their mission to provide more defibrillators for more local communities.  Paul Dick, the Headmaster, said: “The children’s response was magnificent and the sum of £1,658.10  was easily raised.   There will be a special ceremon
